At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, we offer a special selection of ethical elephant activities for our visitors to enjoy. Unlike most elephant tourist traps in Thailand that mistreat their animals to train them to perform tricks or to offer inauthentic elephant experiences, at our sanctuary, we focus on doing our best for both our animals and our visitors.
We do this with the goals of moving toward proper elephant conservation in Thailand, as well as giving our visitors the most authentic elephant experience possible.
7 Elephant Activities To Do At Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary
At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, our visitors can partake in numerous elephant activities that allow them to observe and connect with elephants in their natural environment.
Instead of unethical activities that can hurt the elephants or require painful and harmful training, such as elephant riding, bathing, or mouth-feeding, at our sanctuary, you can connect with these magnificent animals through education, compassion, and sustainable respect.
Here are the elephant activities you can enjoy at our sanctuary:
1. Observe Thai Elephants In Their Natural Environment
Hands-off elephant observation in elephants’ natural habitat is one of the main elephant activities visitors of our sanctuary can enjoy.
Most other elephant experiences in Thailand showcase these magnificent animals in environments that are unnatural for them and have them do things that are atypical and even hurtful to elephants.
However, at our sanctuary, you can observe elephants’ natural behavior, free of any coercion, painful and unethical training, or control. Instead, our sanctuary is designed to be as safe and ethical for both the elephants and our visitors.
2. Walk With Elephants
At our sanctuary, you can enjoy safe and pleasant strolls throughout the park with our elephants. This is in contrast to the elephant rides other tourist attractions offer, which require a lot of unpleasant and unethical training for the elephants and involve risks for both the animals and their riders.
Instead, elephant walks are ethical and safe for both elephants and visitors. More over, they are also a much more natural and awe-inspiring way to appreciate the impressive size, grace, and nature of these animals.
3. Prepare Nutritious Herbal Elephant Snacks
Another mistake many elephant experienced tourist traps make is feeding their elephants unhealthy food (or allowing visitors to feed them all sorts of things).
At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, or ROM for short, we make sure that our elephants are fed properly, and visitors can take part in that by preparing the healthy herbal elephant snacks themselves.
4. Feed Elephants The Right Food
Elephant feedings can be done in many ways, some safe, others not so much. At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, we’ve made sure that visitors can feed our elephants only through their trunks and not through their mouths.
That’s because hand-to-mouth feeding is both dangerous for the visitors and requires the same painful and unethical “socialization” training that other mahouts (elephant owners and caretakers) push their elephants through.
Instead, trunk feedings are perfectly safe for all parties involved and are a much more natural way for elephants to enjoy their snacks anyway.
5. Enjoy Thai Veggie Food And Wrap Traditional Thai Desserts
After feeding the elephants with us, visitors can also enjoy some delicious and traditional Thai cuisine too. The sanctuary offers delicious vegetarian food, and you can even wrap your own traditional Thai dessert.
6. Learn About Thai Elephants And Their Local Ecosystem
At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, we believe in the value of education as the first step toward both rewarding tourism and conscious conservation.
So, those interested can learn a lot about Thai elephants, their local ecosystem, their history, their effect on Thai culture, as well as their present life, struggles, and needs.
7. Participate In Art Therapy Workshops
Join our art therapy workshop and paint your own fabric bag, inspired by the moments you share with our elephants.
This activity offers a peaceful and creative space to reflect on your experience while crafting a meaningful, one-of-a-kind souvenir to take home—something far more special than a typical store-bought gift.
Tourist packages At The Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary

Visitors of the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary can enjoy the above elephant activities through various tourist packages. Most visitors gravitate toward two particular packages, but there are other personalized bookings you can benefit from as well.
Half-Day Highlights
The Half-Day Highlights package costs 2,900 THB and lasts about 3 hours. Visitors begin with an introduction to the sanctuary, where they learn about our mission and the lives of our elephants. They will then prepare nutritious herbal snacks and feed the gentle giants through their trunks. After that, they’ll take part in a hands-on activity making a traditional rice-banana wrap before walking to the elephants to observe them in their natural environment. Before the experience ends, visitors can paint their own fabric bag, inspired by their time with the elephants. The visit concludes with a relaxing vegetarian Thai meal.
Mini Moments
The Mini Moments package costs 2,200 THB and lasts for about 2 hours. With this package, ROM’s visitors will first get an introduction to the sanctuary and learn about it and our elephants. Then, they will prepare fruit and feed the elephants healthy natural snacks through their trunks. After that, they can observe the elephants in the sanctuary and take a walk alongside them. The experience ends with a creative activity—painting your own fabric bag, inspired by your time with the elephants.
Personalized bookings and programs
Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary offers the option of personalized bookings for those who would like a private tour guide. While the program content remains the same and must follow our standard schedule, guests can enjoy a more intimate experience with dedicated guidance. All personalized visits must still comply with our ethical guidelines and respectful conduct toward our Thai elephants.
As you can see, ethical elephant tourism in Thailand is not only quite possible but can be a lot of fun too! At the Krabi Roaming Elephant Sanctuary, we strive to give both our visitors and our elephants the best possible experience and make sure that we help move the needle of elephant conservation in Thailand in the right direction. Hopefully, the things that make our sanctuary unique today will be the norm for most elephant activities and tourist attractions in Thailand tomorrow.
